Compassionate, Child-Centered Endodontic Care
What Makes Our Pediatric Approach Different
The Importance of the Consultation
We believe a positive experience starts with a thorough and unhurried consultation. This initial visit is a crucial step in our process. It gives your child an opportunity to meet Dr. Douglas and our team in a relaxed setting, helping to ease any anxiety. During this time, we encourage parents to ask questions while we explain the recommended procedures in an accessible way. This visit also allows us to assess your child's specific needs, temperament, and determine if sedation may be helpful to ensure a smooth treatment process.

Our Treatments for Children
Root canal treatments for children may vary depending on the specific condition, severity, and the maturity of the tooth involved. At Apex Endodontic Studio, we specialize in the following procedures:
- Pulpotomy A pulpotomy is a treatment used when the decay or infection is limited to the crown portion of the tooth. This procedure involves removing the infected pulp tissue from the top part of the tooth while leaving the healthy pulp in the roots intact. A biocompatible material is placed to protect the tooth, followed by restoration to ensure its functionality.
- Pulpectomy For more advanced infections that affect the entire pulp, a pulpectomy may be necessary. This procedure involves the complete removal of the diseased pulp from the crown and roots of the tooth. After cleaning and shaping the root canals, they are filled with a specialized material to maintain the tooth’s structure until further restoration is completed.
- Apexification Apexification is recommended for immature permanent teeth with open roots where the pulp has been lost due to decay or trauma. This procedure helps stimulate hard tissue formation at the root tip, ensuring the tooth has a stable foundation to support restorative work in the future.
- Apexogenesis For younger patients with developing permanent teeth, apexogenesis aims to preserve the viable pulp tissue to allow continued root development. This procedure promotes normal growth of the root and ensures long-term tooth health.
Conditions We Treat in Children
Children may require the expertise of an endodontist for several reasons. Our specialized care is often needed for complex dental issues affecting the tooth pulp or surrounding tissues. Common reasons children are referred to our studio include:
- Dental Trauma: Injuries from falls or accidents that can damage a tooth.
- Deep Cavities: Decay that has reached the sensitive inner pulp of a tooth.
- Root Canal Treatment on Permanent Teeth: Saving a compromised adult tooth to ensure it remains healthy and functional.
- Pulpotomy/Pulpectomy: Procedures to treat infected pulp in primary (baby) teeth to preserve them until they naturally fall out.
- Dental Abscess: Treating infection at the root of a tooth.
